Design Wars II: Sneak Peek Week (Hint #2!!!)

Design Wars II: Sneak Peek Week (Hint #2!!!)

The wait is nearly over – in just under a weeks time we will be revealing our Design Wars II garments for your vote! That’s right, mark your calendars and stalk your favorite designer for updates because February 21, 2013 will be our final reveal for this round, and your vote will determine who used the yarn best!

These hints today are meant to confuse you –  we don’t really WANT to reveal what we’ve been up to, however, we do want you to have a vague idea so you can play along in our fan page challenge. After this blog post is released, our DWII challengers will be sharing and pinning it to the tops of their respective fan pages, and they want YOU to place your guess there. So, if you think you know what your favorite designer has made for DWII, click on over to their fan page to let them know! Every fan who participates in the designated area will be eligible for a chance to win a special prize from that designer (prize details will be available directly from your favorite designer…).

Finally, this is the last week you will be able to participate for your chance to win our Red Heart Yarns $150 prize pack! Be sure to enter before the deadline – it’s a prize you won’t want to pass up!

Designer Spotlight: Mamachee * Crochet makes me happy!

Designer Spotlight: Mamachee * Crochet makes me happy!

Tara1

Meet Tara Murray! She is the owner / designer at Mamachee Crochet Makes Me Happy, and I don’t think there is a single crochet lover in the world who doesn’t know her work – Honestly! I first began following Tara a few years ago when I came across her Birdy Rattle, and have been a faithful admirer ever since.

In fact, she is so inspirational that I own quite a few of her patterns, and owe a bit of my success as a Made-To-Order artist to her designs: Lael Viking Helmet, Top Hat, Elise Hat, and Maggie Newsboy. I’m certainly not alone in the admiration, as this lady has had nearly 30,000 etsy sales since her shop opened in 2008 (no, that does not include her ravelry, craftsy, and webstore)!

Not only are her designs unique and inspiring, she is a lovely person to keep up with on facebook. Therefore, I’m thrilled to know the lady behind Mamachee, and to share a little Q&A with her. Read, love, enjoy!

Salena Baca (SB): Define success; what do you hope to accomplish?

Tara Murray (TM): Success to me is not about things, social position or how well my crochet patterns are selling. Success is about inner contentment and peace mixed with a will to accomplish and be/do better. I hope to always be able to handle whatever lessons life throws at me without letting it get me down and always come out stronger…and I want to come out with a crochet book sooooooo bad!

SB: Other than your own designs, do you have a favorite pattern?

TM: The first pattern I ever purchased off of etsy was back in 2008 and I still love the pattern. It’s a little pair of booties by sylver called the double strap baby booties.

SB: What color combinations do you currently love?

TM: Oh, right now I am really loving light Gray with pops a bright color. I love a light Gray, dark Gray and pretty Pink combo.

SB: Do you follow blogs? What are your favorites?

TM: I love reading blogs and wish I had more time to maybe add a few more to my read list. Blogs are such an inspiration! Here are a few of my favorites:

www.yellowbirdyellowbeard.com

www.delightfully-tacky.com

www.purlbee.com

www.colormekatie.blogspot.com

www.attic24.typepad.com

SB: Do you have a design board for inspiration?

TM: Yes, I do 🙂 I love tacking stuff to my little board. My kids have recently discovered a love for my design board too. It is constantly rearranged and sometimes…things go missing.

Thanks KDP! You rock the shot!

Thanks KDP! You rock the shot!

I first met Kimberly Dierkhising in England about 2 years ago when she bought a cat and dog hat for her kids, and a few cowls for herself. We didn’t spend a lot of time together then, because just a few months after we met she moved to America. That hasn’t stopped us from keeping in touch though! While I usually am quite friendly and chatty with my customers, Kimberly and I really hit it off; she’s one of the few people I can have a two hour phone conversation with, and we have been great ‘pen pals’ since she moved!

A common bond we have is that we’re die-hard fans of each others craft – she’s been a faithful admirer of my crochet work, and I have a true love for her photography skill! Together, we have designed some of my favorite work; it’s been her feedback and style that have helped me make these fine garments: Bow Headband, Cat Hat, Caterpillar Prop Set, Cloche, Bobble Cowl, Twisted Chunky Cowl, Lofty Cowl, Mesh & Chunky Cowl,  Cluster Newsboy, Favorite Newsboy, Frog Princess,  Flower Headband, and Skunk Hat (to name a few that are favorites in my shop!).

Kimberly has been one of my best customers, and every single product image she sends me just gets better! Her work always amazes me, and I absolutely love her ability to capture a moment, that just happens to have one of my crochet goods in it. Thanks Kimberly!

Now, for the fun part! Pin(terest) any one of these images from this blog post with one of the following captions:

“I want to win 3 Baca Creations Crochet Patterns” – OR –  “I want to win $15 Baca Creations Store Credit”

I’ll randomly choose one pinner to receive 3 Baca Creations Crochet patterns, and one to receive a $15 store credit to www.ShopBacaCreations.com on 18 January, 2013! Ready, Set, PIN!

Also, the next 2 people that book a paid session with Kimberly will receive a $25 Baca Creations store credit! As soon as your session is funded, I will send you the coupon. Enjoy!
